A Condition of the Heart: Beating the Odds

HLHS is something I’ll live with forever. In a way, it makes me who I am, but I don’t let it define me.

The American Heart Association states that congenital heart defects are present in 1 percent of live births. Within that 1 percent, HLHS ranges from 4.8 to 9 percent. I have lived my life with little to no limitations after surviving this rare defect. 

A Season of Firsts

The Missouri Baptist University men’s soccer closed out a record-breaking season by claiming the AMC conference title, winning 2-1 in overtime, for the first time in MBU history.

After scoring the game-winning goal in overtime and ultimately leading the MBU men’s soccer team to the NAIA National Tournament, freshman Jona Oesterling joins his team in celebration. The Spartans, ranked No. 26, travel to Marshall, Missouri, to play the Missouri Valley Vikings, No. 5 seed, on Saturday, Nov. 17.

Watch Out for the Halloween Queen

If you’re looking for the Queen of Halloween herself you can find her in Oakville, Missouri, and her house is one you can not miss. Be sure to take a visit this Halloween, it’s a house tour you will never forget.

Sandvoss family members are all dressed up and ready for Halloween night. Haley, Connor and Julia Sandvoss set up the decor and are the go-to scarers on Halloween night. If you are interested in a good fright follow their Instagram page used to post updates of the haunted house. Send them a DM and they will let you know the time the haunted house opens as well as the exact location in Oakville.

“Three Billboards,” 113 Awards and over 200 Nominations

“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” is centralized around the lack of effort a police department puts into solving a rape and murder case. But as the movie progresses, we are distracted by all the hatred surrounding the small town, making the murder mystery that much harder to solve.

Spreading God’s Love and Sharing Smiles

MBU’s Inaugural Day of Service on Tuesday, Oct. 16, will give students the opportunity to serve with MBU student Lindsey Peters and her charity, Sharing Smiles, to make stuffed bears to brighten the days of children in hospitals.
