First Looks of the New School Year at MBU

As students returned to Missouri Baptist University this fall, they arrived with plenty to do, from sports practices to disc golf to Chapel and even a visit with the Stanley Cup. Today’s photo gallery, by MBU Timeline photojournalists, captures many of the sights around campus and around St. Louis.

Guitarist Katelynn Freese leads students in worship after completing a recent hour-long Sunrise Stretch class on the Quad. Students woke up early for the class, which met outside that morning, to take advantage of cool morning temperatures.

In the wake of traumatic events which result in loss, many survivors bear the weight, feeling as if they should have done more or suffered themselves. Recently, three suicides have made national news, as two were survivors of the Parkland High School shooting, and one a father of a Sandy Hook victim.

Social Media: Helpful or Hindrance

Social media is the standard in today’s society in both business and personal communication. The technology created with great intention may bring more disadvantages than advantages. As young adults, we need to lead the charge of awareness as we become contributing members of society.

More Than Just Gamesmanship

As the federal government shutdown has now reached the one-month mark we are coming to see all too clearly that real lives are being affected by each new day of the stalemate. Paychecks are not being issued to more than 800,000 federal employees, leaving many to wonder how they are going to pay their mortgages, rent, car payments and utility bills. And the ripple effect is being felt across many related industries. Even though furloughed employees will eventually receive their back pay once the government reopens, it’s not much consolation in the here and now. Today our student journalists are blogging on their thoughts about the historic shutdown, the longest in U.S. history.
