This was not only an event for athletic achievements but character and academic honors as well.

“This award will keep me on track in attaining my career goals, as well as through the schooling that will get me there. I know that it will keep me accountable to those who nominated me for this award,” said sophomore  Scholar-Athlete Award winner Sarah Holdman. “ I don’t want to let them down. Not only that, but it has helped me realize what I am capable of. I plan to continue to work hard for myself and for those who have gotten me this far.”

MBU honored two students for shining on outside of school with a Champion of Character award, Matthew Behr and Danielle Pfyl.

“I think this award will help me to continue to live a life that would honor and love all people,” said Behr, a sophomore elementary education major. “It is something that should keep me in check and push me to strive for more as I have the honor of receiving it.”

The evening ended celebrating the MBU baseball team and its NAIA World Series debut in May.

World Series rings were given to each of the baseball players and coaching staff.

A heartfelt speech was given by head baseball coach Eddie Uschold, who recorded his 500th victory during the 2013 season.

Athletics and the Communications Department collaborated to create a video honoring Uschold’s contributions to MBU.

“I would not do what I do, first off, if it wasn’t for my Lord,” said Uschold. “I would not do what I do if it wasn’t for my father.”

Uschold went on to thank his family and his players for being supportive.

Uschold received a standing ovation for his devotion to all things Missouri Baptist University.
