Democrats in the House plan to offer President Donald Trump $5 billion for border security, with hopes of reopening the federal government, but it will not include any new structures like the border wall Trump has made a cornerstone of any compromised budget proposal. Meanwhile, as the shutdown lingers on, entering its second month of the longest shutdown in history, we see families being affected by the furloughs. Today our student journalists are blogging on their thoughts about the historic government shutdown.

As the U.S. government shutdown enters its second month, compromise might finally be in sight, but for now parks like St. Louis’ Gateway Arch continue to be closed to tourists, negatively affecting the economy of the city and state.
No. I don’t get homesick, even though I am nearly 2,000 miles from my hometown of Turlock, California. In fact, St. Louis reminds me of California in a weird way. Nothing is the same between the Midwest and the West Coast, but the love I have for them individually is identical.

The view from this little known spot along the California coast, called Sunset Beach and located 40 minutes north of Monterey, is incredible and one of a kind, but somehow the prairie views and rolling hills of the Midwest have grown on me, too. And the Arch is certainly something to behold.
St. Louis County residents prepare to vote Tuesday, Nov. 6, on the future of the St. Louis Zoo by voting on Proposition Z, a proposed sales tax allowing the park to make necessary repairs, replacements and additions while keeping the landmark’s admission free.

Send them a DM and they will let you know the time the haunted house opens as well as the exact location in Oakville.
“Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri” is centralized around the lack of effort a police department puts into solving a rape and murder case. But as the movie progresses, we are distracted by all the hatred surrounding the small town, making the murder mystery that much harder to solve.
